A study can be real and still leave your question unanswered. ## Does it help memory or focus? Small human studies measured brain scans or brain waves, rather than gains in daily memory or focus. A change in a scan is not the same as doing better at work or remembering more. What is the missing link? The evidence reviewed on September 30, 2026 did not establish a real-world memory or focus benefit in healthy people. ### What about stroke or pain? In July 2026, the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) found too little evidence that Semax helped brain injury from too little blood flow. This means injury when blood cannot reach enough of the brain, as happens in some strokes. The review also found too little evidence of benefit for the pain conditions it checked. Those were migraine headaches and trigeminal neuralgia, which is severe stabbing pain from a nerve in the face. The FDA noted in that review that approved treatments already exist for these problems. Pause over what a claim actually shows. ## What is still unknown about harm? The FDA found too little human information to describe Semax’s harms in its July 2026 assessment. Most reports of human studies in the FDA’s review did not discuss unwanted effects. Bleeding Animal findings raised a bleeding concern, especially with blood thinners; they did not show that bleeding had occurred in people. Other medicines Amphetamine is a drug that speeds up brain activity. In mice given amphetamine, adding Semax caused a larger rise in dopamine, a chemical that carries messages in the brain. Semax alone did not change dopamine in those mice. The FDA was concerned because drugs that people misuse can cause a similar rise in dopamine. This mouse study does not prove Semax is addictive, meaning hard to stop using. Pregnancy or breastfeeding Semax has no established safety data for pregnancy or breastfeeding. What can I ask now? Tell a clinician which medicines you take and ask which tested options address your concern. ## Claims that need another look Open a question to read the answer. Does Russian registration make it approved in the U.S.? The record reviewed on September 30, 2026 describes Russian registration for Semax, but no U.S. approval. What was the request about pharmacy use? People or groups had asked the FDA to allow raw Semax in medicines made by pharmacies. They later took back those requests. As of September 30, 2026, withdrawing those requests had not made raw Semax lawful for pharmacies to use. The FDA’s page about risky pharmacy ingredients, marked April 22, 2026, lists Semax among ingredients with withdrawn requests and still describes safety concerns. Do few reports of side effects mean Semax causes no harm? Most human studies reviewed by the FDA did not discuss side effects.
